Marine emissions work begins with reliable source records and a clear understanding of the applicable framework. EU MRV, the EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime are connected, but their outputs and responsibilities are not interchangeable. Aegean Lloyd is developing a service framework with the required competence and authorization boundaries in view.
EU MRV and the EU ETS
MRV provides a framework for monitoring, reporting and verification of maritime emissions data. The EU ETS adds emissions trading obligations for activities within its scope. Preparing a data record, verifying a report and meeting allowance obligations are distinct activities. The responsible company, covered voyages and reporting period must be identified for each assessment.
FuelEU Maritime
FuelEU Maritime addresses the greenhouse gas intensity of energy used onboard and includes requirements concerning shore power for relevant ship categories and circumstances. Its assessment requires suitable fuel and energy evidence. Compliance with one emissions framework should not be presented as automatic compliance with another.
UK MRV: the 2026 change
The UK has introduced legislation revoking the former UK MRV instruments, alongside the expansion of its emissions trading arrangements to maritime activities. The UK-MRV heading is retained here as a familiar reference. Current UK obligations should be checked against the latest UK ETS maritime guidance, not assumed from historical MRV templates.
Preparing a reviewable evidence package
The planned intake identifies the ship, company, period, voyage records, fuel documentation and data responsibilities. Missing information and inconsistent assumptions should be resolved before any formal verification decision. Aegean Lloyd does not currently claim accredited verifier status; scheme-specific services will depend on confirmed accreditation or authorization where required.
SERVICE AVAILABILITY
This page describes the service framework being developed. Acceptance of any assignment depends on a confirmed technical scope, suitable personnel and the required approvals or authorizations. It does not claim flag recognition, IACS membership or accredited verifier status.
